Potty Training

***Disclaimer: This is a very unfiltered post about my day with Lucas. I almost didn't write this because of how sensitive I am about this right now. Lucas is a very stubborn and strong willed child. I would like to place all the blame for that on his Daddy and the Shaw side of the family, but that would not be honest since his Mommy can be very strong willed and stubborn along with the Putman side of the family. I'm pretty sure he got a quadruple dose. A huge thank you to my Joshua who has fought this "war" with me all day!

Today has been a frustrating day with Lucas. We started potty training. I thought the second child was suppose to be easier because they want to be like the older one. Not in Lucas' case. I kept waiting for him to wake up one day (like Logan did) and want to wear big boy underwear and potty in the potty. It hasn't happened...yet. He's 3 1/2.

Lucas did great the first time. When he woke up, his pull up was dry so I immediately put him on the potty. After a few minutes of sitting there, he went. We did a happy dance, and everyone made a big deal about what a big boy he was for pottying.

After that, he just refused ALL day! He put on big boy underwear. I set a timer for 30 minutes all day, and we would try when the timer went off. I put plastic down along with his potty in front of the TV in the playroom so he could watch NetFlix. I offered him a dumdum if he would potty. M&Ms, fruit snacks, Sonic coke. Nothing worked. The first couple of times he truly had accidents. After the third one though, he started running around laughing, "I wet my pants! I wet my pants!".  He did this every time after that.

Right before dinner, I was about ready to give in and put him in a pull up. We were in the bathroom and I was cleaning him up when he said, "Are you gonna put me in a pull up yet?". I kid you not, those exact words. That did it for me. I will NOT be thwarted by a 3 year old. Needless to say our day ended with me crying and him laughing about another accident. He will potty like a big boy if it kills both of us. And...it...just...might.

But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:21-23 ESV)

By the way, these pictures were taken Saturday night at my in laws. That's why we're both smiling instead of the aforementioned crying and laughing.

  1. Kaydi, kids are so frustrating sometimes! I am right there with you. It will be OK, I know you know that. Just keep on trying. We had Avery pantyless and pantless for several days, not sure if it helped though. And she is potty trained and still pooped in her pants yesterday, which was disgusting. Kids.
